Y2K: Keys to join the two-mile trend with style

| Andrea Lage Novo

2000's are back!!

There is no better way to revive 2000s fashion than by using vintage garments that belong to that era. Today we want to tell you how to wear the Y2K trend in 2023 to beat the game. Keep reading!

More than once we have gone to our mothers' closets in search of “treasure” garments that they wear again and become part of the most innovative looks. This is clearly the example of the Y2K (Year 2 Thousand) trend.

The 2000s style has become the favorite of generation Z (and millennials), going viral on Tik Tok and starring in the best looks on Instagram. And in the middle of 2022, with television reboots of series like Gossip Girl and Sex and the City , we move to the era of the iPod, the Nokia 3310, the reign of Britney Spears and the Spice Girls ... 20 years later, we are inspired again in icons such as Carrie Bradshaw , the Bratz dolls, Lizzie Mcguire or the Clueless characters.

How to wear the Y2K trend in 2023?

The first thing you should know is that in 2022 we are bringing a 'new version' of the original 2000s aesthetic, which fuses the fashion of the early 2000s and nods to the 90s . Therefore, although some garments remain faithful to their original style, many iconic pieces such as the baguette bag, the Juicy Couture tracksuits worn by Paris Hilton or the printed Custo Barcelona t-shirts worn by Phoebe in the series Friends (and also by Julia Roberts in the movie Runaway Bride) have been updated.

If you want to join the trend, these are the pieces that cannot be missing in your closet (I'm sure you already have most of them): baguette bags, t-shirts with graphic prints, low-rise pants, mini skirts (and also long cargo skirts midi), velvet tracksuits, basic tank tops and sportswear, chunky sandals...

Ten keys to join the Y2K fashion

1. Low rise . The low rise (loved and hated in equal parts) is the maximum representation of the two-mile aesthetic.

2.T-shirts with graphic prints or baby tees . Another of the key Y2K garments are t-shirts that reveal the navel. We find models of all types: strapless, short-sleeved, strapless neckline, sporty style...

3. Micro skirts (and cargo skirts) . They are worn in both XXS and midi length versions and with pockets. Fashion experts combine them with a belt and leaving the abdomen exposed, but also with corsets, blouses or cropped cardigans.

4. Varsity aesthetics. The movie Clueless is the best example. Sportswear, bucket hats, board skirts... With special mention to the velvet tracksuits so characteristic of that era (yes, they're back too)

5. Denim on denim . Britney Spears is a great reference when it comes to wearing this trend. Combine a top or a denim vest with matching pants to wear denim in a total look format.

6. Butterflies. This insect symbolizes rebirth, freedom and new beginnings. Therefore, in this time of change it has become a symbol for this generation. Butterflies are everywhere: from Rosalía's new album ('the butterflies, I transform') to all kinds of clothing and accessories.

7. Special mention to accessories . More is more. Chain belts, body chains, XLL jewelry (and with a toy appearance), screen-type sunglasses (mirror effect or decorated with rhinestones), earrings...

8. Hairstyle is essential. Beyond the clothing and accessories that cannot be missing from your Y2K wardrobe, you should pay attention to the hairstyle with which to complete your look. Clip-in updos and bubblegum ponytails are favorites.

The truth is that the Y2K trend, beyond being a way of dressing, is an attitude. So, we encourage you to adapt it to your own style and revive it however you like!
